Historic Tourist Attractions in Lithgow

The Australian city of Lithgow, located on the western side of the Blue Mountains, is a favorite tourist destination. Due to its proximity to Sydney, Lithgow attracts huge crowds from the nearby capital city of New South Wales. Lying at 900 meters above sea level, the city of Lithgow enjoys warm weather during the summer, while snowfall occurs occasionally in the winter. Blast Furnace Park

Take a trip to the place where the first steel and the first iron were cast in Australia. This memorial is dedicated to the industrial history of Lithgow. The blast furnace was established by William Sandford in 1886. The blast furnace continued production until the industry was shifted to Port Kembla.

Bowenfels Railway Station

Bowenfels, a small village forming the outer suburb of Lithgow, has some remaining old buildings that are now bypassed by the Great Western Highway. One of the remaining old buildings is the rustic railway station that was constructed of sandstone. With attractive verandahs, steeply sloping roofs, and elaborate works in wood and stone, the building has a distinctly English architectural style.

Hartley Historic Village

The historic village is situated amongst orchards, pastures, and native vegetations with remains of 19th-20th century cottage gardens. The historic place is significant for its well-preserved remnants of an early rural settlement of the Blue Mountains. Today, Hartley is an ideal place for guided day tours and family picnics.

Lithgow Pottery

Set up in 1833, this is the oldest commercial pottery in Australia, situated behind the Shopping complex in Silcock Street. Used with a wide range of ceramics and hand-made pottery, the Lithgow Pottery is now located inside a heritage building.
