(Hangzhou) Our last evening we were treated to the awkwardly titled Impression West Lake, and open-air performance of Zhang Yi Mou.
Although Fang Fang later admitted to not understanding the work, she was nevertheless so touched by the show that she became romantic. All the way home she would sing the refrain – she understood. Famous for having choreographed the awe-inspiring opening of the Beijing Olympic Games, Zhang Yi Mou creates visually enticing open-air works that use hundreds of characters that is an impressive sight. Impression West Lake is a visual poetry that reaches to the contrast of the individual struggle, versus the ease of life with and intertwined with the love of others.
