India Visa Requirements
India visa requirements are strict and inflexible.
All non-Indian travelers must have a valid passport and an India visa to enter the country.
Those who arrive without a valid passport and an appropriate visa will be turned back at the port of entry. They will also be subject to a fine and immediate deportation at their own personal expense.
India Visas – Passport Requirements
Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of visa application and there should be at least two blank pages available nn the passport. Two recent passport sized photographs with a forward pose against a light background are required as part of the application.
Obtaining India Visas
There are two ways to obtain an India visa: either in person or by paying a reputable visa agency to handle the arrangements.
In person India Visas can be obtained in person at an Indian Embassy, Indian Consulate General or an Indian High Commission.
This can usually be completed in one day.
Applications are usually accepted in person from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and are returned usually from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. the same day. Timings may vary according to the location of the Embassy, Consulate or High Commission. You can also submit an application by mail. This may take up to 10 business days to process after receipt of your application.
Travel Agency or Visa Agency You can pay a travel agency or a specialist visa agency to manage your visa application for a fee. Whichever method you choose remember to allow sufficient time for your application to be processed and your visa to be delivered prior to your departure.
India Visas: Cost and Duration
The fee for the India tourist visa depends on the length of validity. An India visa is usually valid for six months.
The following prices are for UK nationals and prices for other nationals vary.
Tourist: Business: three/six months, single- and multiple-entry, which permits up to two years’ validity]: (one year); (up to two years).
Transit: (up to 72 hours, single- or double-entry; stay in India should not exceed 15 days from date of arrival).
Student: (up to six months); (up to one year); (more than five years).
Journalist, Employment and Conference visas are also available (contact the Embassy or High Commission for details).
Visas for restricted/protected areas entail an additional fee of and require a special permit.
Some nationals are exempt from visa fees and some must pay additional amounts.
The following prices are for U.S. nationals: Tourist and business visas for up to six months $73. For up to 12 months $98. For up to ten years $163. An India visa must be used within 90 days of receiving it.

The most sought after are the tourist and business visas.
The India Business Visa requires a notarized letter from your employer stating the nature of your business, dates of arrival and departure and financial responsibility for all costs involved in the trip. You will need to include all places and organizations that you plan to visit.
The cost of the India Business visa is the same as the tourist India visa.
