Things you shouldn’t miss on your trip to Riverside, California

Riverside is known as the city of Arts & culture, and it’s a regional center for arts, culture, and entertainment. The city exhibits several cultural events that you can be in Riverside for a whole year and you can have something new to see/visit every day.

For a city of Arts & culture, it’s important to highlight their diverse arts and cultural offerings. And, they are doing it quite beautifully since they’re competing in a big league because other cities are also in a struggle to get the same “title.”

It’s difficult to discuss every event the city organizes as so much happens almost every day. But let’s take you to a virtual tour of Riverside in which you’ll know about some notable venues and popular events.



Artscape is a gallery that exhibits visual arts. It’s situated on 4080 Lemon Street, Riverside county building. There are three types of halls: main lobby, executive offices lobby and Board of supervisors lobby. Each of these halls displays art visuals biannually. You can get the passes before your visit but it’s not necessary as you can get a pass on arrival.

Coffee Depot


Coffee depot is a wonderful place to visit. It hosts open mic nights twice a week where local and Broadway talent performs. Also, you can enjoy the swing and salsa dancing and music & caffeinated cabaret. The coffee depot has two venues: 1) 3204 Mission Inn Avenue (Downtown) 2) Riverside Plaza, 3504 riverside plaza drive.

Mariachi Festival


It’s a festival to celebrate Hispanic culture and revive the genre of Mariachi music. Recreation and Community Services of Riverside showcase Mexican music, cultural activities, ballet folklore dance and food for everyone. The festival also hosts a few competitions: 1) Wild or Mild Salsa Contest 2) Ballet Folklore Dance Contest 3) Galeria de Artes and Art Contest. You can purchase tickets from Fairmount Park, 3936 chestnut St.

Riverside Metropolitan Museum


The Metropolitan Museum of Riverside is rich in objects of anthropology, natural history and general history with over 70,000 objects. It’s a community museum that collects and interprets cultural history as well. Currently, the museum is exhibiting Natural Dioramas of the Riverside region and Citrus & Rise of Southern California 1880 to present. It’s situated at 3580 Mission Inn Avenue. A few programs are also organized including workshops, demonstration & lectures and educational programs.

Festival of Lights


Festival of Lights is an event organized by the joint collaboration of City of Riverside and Mission Inn Hotel & Spa. You can enjoy carriage rides, holiday food, free holiday entertainment, ice skating, specialty vendors and unique shopping and dining in the downtown. This event begins a day after Thanksgiving and continues for a few days. It’s a great event to enjoy with your family and kids.

The Shelby and Ferne Collinsworth School of Music


The Shelby and Ferne Collinsworth School of Music are so rich in arts. They have four choral groups, a concert band, four vocal ensembles, pop band and a jazz band. These different groups perform at different churches, educational institutes and random venues decided by the Institute. You can find some rare talent and enjoy their performances.
